Panchayat polls in Punjab to be held in September, Punjab govt informs HC

Chandigarh: Elections to Zila Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat in Punjab will be held in September. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Punjab Haryana High Court regarding the non-conduct of elections.

The petition demanded the Punjab government to hold elections immediately. The matter was heard on Monday. The Punjab government told the High Court that elections would be held in September.

According to the earlier notification dated August 10, 2023, elections to panchayat samitis and zilla parishad were to be held by 25 November 2023 and elections to gram panchayats by 31 December 2023.
