Petrol bikes will not be sold in Chandigarh after June, registration will be closed under EV policy

Chandigarh: According to the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy of the Chandigarh UT Administration, the sale of petrol bikes in the city will stop after June. Even if someone buys a bike, it will not be registered in Chandigarh, because according to the EV policy, the target for the year 2023-24 can be met in June. After this, only electric bikes will be sold and registered in Chandigarh forever.
According to the EV policy’s target of the year 2023-24, about 6200 petrol bikes can be registered in the city. After this, the registration of petrol bikes will be closed. Only electric bikes will be registered. In just one and a half months, about 3700 bikes have been registered. Therefore, now only about 2500 petrol bikes will be registered.
This has created panic among the showroom owners of two-wheelers. If the bike bikini stops, then many showrooms will also have to be closed. Thousands of people are also likely to be unemployed. Two-wheeler dealers are making rounds from administration officials to the ministry.
Dealers said that people are still not fully convinced about EVs. Of the 21,000 two-wheelers sold last year, around 19,500 were petrol bikes. E-bikes were just close to 1500. Instead of closing registration, people should be encouraged by giving incentives.
The sudden closure of petrol two-wheelers will also harm dealers and will also burden people. Some other dealers say that when companies do not make EV bikes, how do they sell them?
