Poet Surjit Patar to be cremated with state honor in Ludhiana today

Chandigarh: The Punjab government will annually present the Patar Award in memory of Punjabi poet and litterateur Surjit Patar. This award will be bestowed upon emerging poets.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has meticulously devised this entire plan to honor renowned poet Patar. Simultaneously, the ceremonial announcement regarding this award will occur today, sources said.

The recipient of the Patar Award will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a memento each year. The Department of Languages will oversee the administration of this award.

Poet Dr. Surjit Singh Patar will be cremated with state honors in Ludhiana today. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann will be in attendance for the ceremony and will also meet with the poet’s family.

Earlier, the CM had a phone conversation with Patar’s family. He frequently references Surjit Patar’s poems in his speeches.
