Policemen attacked for stopping illegal mining

Chandivarh:.  The miscreants attacked the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and police personnel of Machhiwara police who had gone to stop illegal mining of sand on the banks of the Sutlej river last night and rescued the sand-laden trolley from the possession of the police and the arrested accused.
    The mobile phone of one of the employees and Rs 5,000 were also snatched. The Machhiwara police have identified seven persons in connection with the case. ASI Jaswant Singh and cop Paramjit Singh, who were injured in the attack, were admitted to the hospital.
    Two of the accused named in the case have been identified as Shashi Pal and Ved Pal residents of Tandi Mand. The police have arrested them. After receiving information about the incident, the police cordoned off the village Tandi Mand and a search operation is on to trace the remaining accused.
