Power tariff hiked in Punjab after Jalandhar elections, check out new rates here
Chandigarh News: The results of the by-elections in Jalandhar were declared on May 13, in which Sushil Kumar Rinku of AAP won with a huge margin. After this victory, the state government has given a big blow to Punjabis.
Two days after the results of the by-elections, the government has increased the prices of electricity. The new rates will come into effect from May 16.
A notification in this regard has been issued by PSPCL. Electricity prices have been hiked by 56 paise per unit. The hike in power tariff will come into effect from tomorrow and will remain in force till March 31, 2024.
Bhagwant Mann tweeted that the government will bear the cost of increasing the power rates, it will not put any burden on the common people. Not a single meter of the plan with 600 units will be affected.
Electricity has become expensive in Punjab. Domestic electricity rates have been increased by 70 paise per unit. The people of Punjab have suffered a major setback as soon as the Jalandhar by-election is held.
On the other hand, the opposition has targeted the government over this. Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring tweeted, “The first gift of the AAP government to the people of Punjab after the victory in the Jalandhar elections is the increase in power tariff. When are you cancelling agreements with power companies?”
