Punjab government to start distributing free wheat/flour at doorstep from Gurpurab

Jalandhar News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved the commencement of home delivery of wheat and flour in the state from November 27, the day of the Gurpurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department has given final touches to the scheme but it is likely to be formally launched from mid-December. The Chief Minister is likely to make a soft launch of this new scheme from Gurpurab. Even if there is any disruption, home delivery of food grains will start before the new year.
The Punjab Cabinet had on May 3 last year approved the commencement of home delivery of flour and the scheme was scheduled to be launched from October 1. At that time, this decision of the government was challenged by the depot holders in the High Court, due to which the matter was delayed.
Now the state government wants to launch this scheme before the upcoming panchayat and municipal council elections so that it can be taken political advantage, official said.
