Punjab Government’s Special Campaign to fill Backlog for the Disabled from July 20

Chandigarh: Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is committed to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. Accordingly, a special campaign will be conducted from July 20th to September 20th, 2023, on a priority basis to fill the backlog in direct recruitment and promotion quotas in all Government departments of the state.

Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, stated that the state government is making efforts to prioritize the filling of the backlog for disabled individuals. She mentioned that 32 departments have provided information regarding this matter, and based on the information received, there are a total of 920 vacancies. This includes the number of positions to be filled through direct recruitment and promotion. She instructed the officials to promptly obtain the backlog report from other departments and ensure its inclusion in this campaign.

The Cabinet Minister directed the proper maintenance of the roster register of disabled persons so that disabled individuals can benefit from direct recruitment and promotion in a timely manner, as per the instructions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and the Punjab Government. She ordered the department to organize workshops in this regard and prepare master trainers. Furthermore, she stated that these trainers should provide training at all levels to ensure the proper preparation of roster registers for the disabled in the head offices and regional offices, as well as the future preparation of the vacancy roster register for the disabled quota, following the given instructions.

Special Chief Secretary of Social Security, Women and Child Development, Mrs. Raji P. Srivastava, instructed the officials to gather data on the backlog of direct recruitment and promotion quotas for persons with disabilities in all government departments, with the aim of completing the process of fill the backlog for disabled individuals. Additionally, she mentioned that extensive efforts were being made to review the roster register and compile the required data. Any deficiencies identified were rectified through this review.

Director of the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Mrs. Madhvi Kataria, conducted a meeting with 32 government departments and directed them to publish advertisements before July 20th, 2023, for the recruitment against the backlog of the direct recruitment quota for disabled individuals. She emphasized that the advertisements should be specifically issued to fill the backlog posts of the disabled quota, excluding other vacant positions in the department. She further stated that, in addition to advertising for the backlog of direct recruitment, prompt action should be taken to facilitate promotions against the backlog in the promotion quota.
