Punjab initiates process to amend policy to regularise plots in unauthorised colonies

Punjab E News: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has initiated the process of amending the regularisation policy to expedite the disposal of cases related to regularisation of plots in unauthorised colonies.

The proposed amendments are being made for the purpose of regularisation of plots in unauthorised colonies where construction has been completed till December 31, 2022 and the sale agreement was signed before March 19, 2018.
According to the proposed amendments, each plot owner in colonies where 25 per cent of the plots have been sold will be charged separately for regularisation of plots.
Legal action will be taken against the defaulter colonizers and arrears will also be recovered from them. The Housing and Urban Development Department has shared a draft of the proposed amendments with various departments involved in the regularisation process and sought suggestions in this regard. Officially, there are around 14,000 illegal colonies in the state. However, this number may be even higher.
According to sources, there are several cases in which contracts for sale of colonies were signed before March 19, 2018, but they do not exist on Google. Such colonies and plots may be considered for regularisation with the condition of approval by the government and after physical verification that the property was in existence before December 31, 2022.
