Punjab Police Action Against Drugs Gets Public Support

PUNJAB POLICE REACH OUT TO REHABILITATION CENTRES FOR ENCOURAGING YOUTH TO RETURN TO MAINSTREAM

Punjabenews: Punjab Police’s drive against drugs launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has started yielding positive results as the public extended fulsome support to the Punjab Police to make Punjab a drug-free state.

Punjab Police have been carrying out Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) at drug hotspots in the state from time to time and people from all sections of society are very happy with the action of the force and cooperating with the Police teams.

Harpinder Singh, Sarpanch of village Kharaurhi (Fatehgarh Sahib), which has been declared as a Drug-Free Village by Panchayat, thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Punjab Police for launching a war against drugs. He on the behalf of the panchayat extended fulsome support in this war to make Punjab a drug-free state.

Police teams led by Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) on Monday conducted CASOs and special Naka Bandis in five districts including Fatehgarh Sahib, Tarn Taran, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar Rural. Police teams, on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, also visited the rehabilitation centres to motivate the people undergoing the treatment of drug addiction to return to the mainstream to start a new life.

The DGP said that the Police teams have received an overwhelming response and great support from the public during this special operation carried out in five districts. He also exhorted the public to share inputs with the Police in case they get to know about anyone selling/consuming drugs.

Amritsar Rural police have visited the rehabilitation centre at Khiyala to interact with the youth, who are under treatment, to motivate them to shun drugs to lead a dignified life in society. Police boosted their morale with one-to-one interaction and encouraged them to return to the mainstream and also offered them sweets and fruits, besides, playing games with them.

Hoshiarpur Police carried out CASO in the village Bhungarni and registered two FIRs under the NDPS act. The Police teams have also motivated nine addicted youths and got them admitted at the de-addiction centre in Hoshiarpur for treatment.

In Fatehgarh Sahib, police conducted CASO and strong Naka Bandi, the Police teams have also visited the village Kharaurhi, where Panchayat has declared the village Drug Free by passing a resolution. Interestingly, people from all sections of society were present and they all were very happy with the action against drugs by the Punjab Police. Similarly, activities were also carried out in the districts of Tarn Taran and Pathankot.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the Punjab Police have not been leaving any stone unturned to make Punjab a drug-free state as per the vision of CM Bhagwant Mann. He said that extensive anti-drug drives have been launched by the Punjab Police to combat the menace of drugs from the border State.

“Our anti-drug drive received a major push today after the people of Punjab extended fulsome support to the Punjab Police to realise the dream of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to make Punjab a drug-free state,” he said.
