Railway tracks blocked in Haryana-Punjab for 4 hours: Farmers stop Shatabdi, Malwa and Humsafar Express
New Delhi: Farmers in Punjab and Haryana, who have been protesting for 27 days at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Punjab-Haryana, have halted trains.
They have squatted on tracks at 52 locations in 22 districts in Punjab, while railway tracks have been blocked at 3 places including Sirsa in Haryana. This demonstration will take place from 12 noon to 4 pm.
Sarwan Singh Pandher, coordinator of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, called for rail blockades in 30 districts of north India.
The Railways state that farmers have selected 21 places for blocking tracks in the Ambala division, potentially affecting about 100 trains.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has warned of taking action against those participating in the rail roko movement.
The police had also initiated strict measures ahead of the farmers’ rail roko agitation. Ambala police raided the houses of several farmer leaders and summoned them for questioning in connection with the agitation. Action was threatened if they failed to appear. However, the farmers did not obstruct the trains in Ambala.
Meanwhile, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has convened a mahapanchayat on March 14 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, named the Farmer-Labor Mahapanchayat.
