Ruckus in Punjab Assembly, Speaker adjourns proceedings; CM attacks opposition

Chandigarh: Today marks the second day of the budget session of the Punjab government. Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s address is up for debate. As soon as CM Bhagwant Mann rose to speak, he presented an envelope containing a lock and key to Speaker Kultar Sandhwa.

CM Mann said, “If I speak the truth, the opposition will boycott the session.” Opposition leader Partap Singh Bajwa vehemently opposed this statement, leading to a heated uproar in the House.”

A fierce war of words ensued between CM Mann and Bajwa, lasting approximately half an hour before the Speaker adjourned the House for a 15-minute break.

On March 1, during the session’s first day, Congress MLAs prevented the Governor from delivering the budget speech, resulting in the Governor only being able to read the first and last lines of the speech. The Congress caused disruption on the first day, primarily concerning the farmer movement, leading to the assembly proceedings being halted after just 13 minutes.

Following this, speaker Kultar Sandhwan adjourned the Assembly proceedings for 15 minutes.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann cautioned Partap Singh Bajwa about a potential 13-0 situation in Punjab, remarking on the confrontational tone and underlying ego.

He also said that 70 percent of Punjab’s Congress members have aligned with the BJP, adding, “I possess files on all the leaders.”
