Salary Scam, Missing Vouchers in Chandigarh Police: Bills, vouchers worth Rs 84 crore missing: CAG

Chandigarh: The audit department has caught several scams in the Chandigarh Police. The biggest disclosure has been that about Rs 84 crore are missing from the police account and the police do not know where and to whom the money has gone, because the audit department says that the bill and voucher of this money are not with the police.

After raising questions in the audit, the police have handed over the investigation of finding the bill and voucher to the Crime Branch.
Apart from this, many irregularities have also come to light. This has been revealed in the CAG report of the year 2022.
Director General of Audit (Central) Sanjeev Goel said that on the request of the Chandigarh DGP, he conducted an audit of the police department from 2017 to 2020. A copy of the report has also been handed over to administrator Banwarilal Purohit for action.
The annual budget of the police department on salaries is around Rs 400 crore and all employees are registered on the e-Sevaarth portal for salaries and allowances, the report said.
Earlier, unaccountable payment of Rs 1.60 crore was detected due to deficiencies in internal and IT controls and gross negligence. In this case, when the audit raised the question, the police recovered Rs 1.10 crore.
The audit has now found that during the period 2017-18 and 2019-20, police personnel were paid Rs 83.59 crore for salaries, outstanding salaries, LTC, TA, medical, retirement benefits, etc.
In the absence of bills, it is not known to whom and where this money has gone. The audit department has expressed the possibility of a major glitch.
