Satluj, Beas wreak havoc in 8 districts of Punjab
Punjab News: The Sutlej and Beas rivers have wreaked havoc in Punjab due to the release of water from Bhakra and Pong dams and around 100 villages in eight districts of the state have been inundated.
According to the information received, so far Ferozepur, Fazilka, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Ropar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur districts and other areas of the state are facing the brunt of floods.
A large number of people have been rendered homeless in these districts. There is an atmosphere of panic in Ferozepur and Fazilka due to the accumulation of water of Sutlej and Beas rivers at Harike headworks where rescue operations are being carried out by the administration with the cooperation of the residents of the area.
In view of the deteriorating situation in the state, NDRF teams are engaged in rescue operations in collaboration with the villagers.
In Punjab, the water level in Bhakra dam is fast moving towards the danger mark while the water in Pong dam is flowing above the danger mark. Due to this, water is being released continuously from both the dams, due to which the water level in Bhakra and Pong dams has started decreasing.
According to the information received, the water level in Bhakra Dam has been recorded at 1674.42 feet today while the danger mark is at 1680 feet. At present, 39,445 cusecs of water is flowing into bhakra dam and 67,448 cusecs of water is being released.
Similarly, the water level in Pong Dam was recorded at 1392.39 feet, while the danger mark is at 1390 feet.
At present, 33,081 cusecs of water is flowing into pong dam, while 78,275 cusecs of water is being released.
The water level in Ranjit Sagar dam has been recorded at 521.49 feet. It is flowing 11,792 cusecs of water and 19,854 cusecs of water is being released.
