SC to hear plea on Shambhu-Khanauri Border opening today

Chandigarh: The Supreme Court of India is scheduled to hear a plea on Monday regarding the reopening of the Shambhu-Khanauri border, which has been a point of contention.

In the previous hearing, the Court had directed the governments of Punjab and Haryana to continue discussions with the protesting farmers to reach a resolution.

Despite the ongoing talks, the discussions between the two governments and the farmers have not yielded any results so far.

The Court had also instructed the Punjab government to submit the names of additional committee members, which is expected to happen today.

If the names are submitted, the Supreme Court may finalize the committee members during the hearing.

This committee is intended to act as a liaison between the farmers and the central government, addressing the issues at the heart of the dispute.

In the last hearing, the apex court stressed that both states’ legal representatives should submit the proposed issues for the committee to address.

The Court intends for the committee to have a broad mandate to resolve the recurring law and order challenges in a fair and amicable manner.
