Shopkeeper hacked to death by Nihangs in Punjab, son and brother injured

Chandigarh: A man was hacked to death by six Nihangs with swords in Tarn Taran district of Punjab on Tuesday.

Deceased’s son and brother were also seriously injured in the attack. The Nihangs attacked this over money transactions, police said.

Some people barged into the victim’s house and chopped him in front of the family. Two people were rushed to the hospital in injured condition, where the father died.

The incident took place in ward number 6 of Patti. The deceased has been identified as Shammi Puri. He ran a grocery store. The injured have been identified as Karan Puri, son of Shammi Puri and brother Rajan Puri.

Hearing the screams of the victims, people in the vicinity reached the spot. They joined the neighbours and picked up sticks and stones against the Nihangs. Even after this, when the Nihangs remained firm, people drove them away by hitting bricks. The investigation is underway.
