Six labourers trapped under debris after roof collapses while lifting lanterns in Rupnagar

Chandigarh: Around half a dozen labourers were buried under the debris after the roof of an old house collapsed while lifting its lantern with the help of jacks at Preet Colony in Rupnagar here today.

A team of district administration and police officials reached the spot and started rescue operations.

According to the information received, the contractor of the neighboring state of Haryana was trying to raise the lantern of the old house with the help of laborers and the work of raising the house was in the final stage, during which suddenly the roof of the house collapsed and about half a dozen laborers are feared trapped under the debris.

The labourers trapped under the debris of the house include Ramesh, Kaka, Abhishek, Sahil and another labourer, besides a 40-year-old foreman.

Apart from the foreman, all the other workers are said to be between 20 and 25 years of age. Relief teams are carrying out rapid relief operations to evacuate the workers safely.
