Special CBI court convicts two Punjab police officers

A special CBI court here has convicted two Punjab Police officers Shamsher Singh and Jagtar Singh in a three-decade-old fake police encounter case.

The convicts will be sentenced on Monday. Both have been sent to police custody. Two other police officers named in the case, Inspector Puran Singh and ASI Jagir Singh, have died during the trial of the case.

On April 15, 1993, the Tarn Taran district police was carrying Harbans Singh, a resident of Oboke (Tarn Taran), to recover the weapon when militants opened fire on the police party on the way. Harbans Singh and another unidentified militant were killed in the encounter.
