Stubble burning cases reduced in Punjab, Haryana this year: Union Environment Ministry

Delhi: In Punjab and Haryana, there has been a 27 per cent and 37 per cent reduction in stubble burning cases, respectively, this year as compared to last year. A total of 83,002 cases of stubble burning were reported in Punjab in 2020, the Union Environment Ministry said. 
      The number of stubble burning cases came down to 71,304 in 2021, 49,922 in 2022 and 36,663 this year. The ministry said that there has been a 27 per cent reduction in the cases of stubble burning in the fields this year as compared to last year.
According to the ministry, there were a total of 4,202 cases of stubble burning in Haryana in 2020 but 6,987 cases were registered in 2021, 3,661 in 2022 and 2,303 this year. Thus, there has been a decline of 37 per cent this year as compared to the previous year and it is 67 per cent less than 2021 and 45 per cent less than 2020, the ministry said.
