Student commits suicide at Sangrur Meritorious School over low marks

Chandigarh: A Class XII student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the hostel of a meritorious school in Punjab’s Sangrur last night, police said. He has been identified as Karan Singh, a resident of Lahragaga, Sangrur.

Police have taken Karan’s body and kept it in the civil hospital. The postmortem of the body will be done today. It is learned that the teacher had complained to the student’s father after getting low marks in the examination. Karan was upset over this.

According to the information received, Karan was studying in the commerce stream in class XII at the Meritorious School located in Ghabadan, Sangrur. Karan committed suicide by hanging himself in the hostel built in the school premises late on Monday evening.

This came to light when the hostel staff approached the room. After this, the information of the case was given to the hostel authorities.

SHO of Sangrur police station Sadar Gurpreet Singh Handa said that the police will take further action in the case after recording the statement of the family.
