Students strike over assault on medical student, demand swift action

Chandigarh: Students at Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Medical College have launched an indefinite strike following an attack on a fourth-year BSc nursing student on Wednesday evening.

The student was reportedly assaulted by three unidentified individuals on campus, who also attempted to tear her clothes.

Protesters are demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits and improved campus security. They accuse the college management of negligence, citing the lack of adequate safety measures, particularly for female students.

The protesters have also demanded an apology from the administration and concrete steps to ensure student safety.

Adding to their grievances, some students alleged that the college management, including the principal, attempted to intimidate them. Carrying placards with slogans, they have vowed to continue their strike until their demands are met.

Local authorities, including DSP Dakha Varinder Khosa and Jodhon Police Station in-charge Hira Singh, arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. Police said that the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the students remain firm in their call for justice and institutional reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
