Sukhbir Badal and Akali leaders seek forgiveness at Akal Takht following religious sentence
Amritsar: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, accompanied by several senior Akali leaders, appeared before the Akal Takht in Amritsar to offer prayers for ‘Khima Yachana’ (seeking forgiveness). The visit came after the completion of their religious sentence imposed by the Panj Singh Sahiban.
A special prayer was conducted at the Akal Takht for remission of the sentence of the Akali leaders. Among those present were Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Gulzar Singh Ranike, and Balwinder Singh Bhunder. Sukhbir Singh Badal, who arrived in a wheelchair, was surrounded by tight security during the event.
On December 2, the Panj Singh Sahiban had imposed religious penalties on the leaders, which included acts of atonement at Sri Harmandir Sahib. Sukhbir Singh Badal publicly confessed to the charges against him during an earlier gathering of the Sikh Sangat.
While fulfilling his sentence on December 4, where he served as a watchman near the Ghanta Ghar side of Sri Harmandir Sahib, a man identified as Narayan Singh Chaura attempted to attack him with gunfire. The incident raised security concerns around the SAD leader.
