Upset over daughter’s inter-caste marriage, man commits suicide in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: A 55-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself in Jalandhar, Punjab as he was reportedly upset over inter-caste marriage of his daughter.

A 3-page suicide note has also been recovered from the deceased, on the basis of which the Maqsooda police station is investigating the case.

The incident took place in Dheer Colony of Punjabi Bagh on the Jalandhar-Pathankot road late at night.

The deceased has been identified as Naval Kishore Upadhyay, who originally hailed from Uttar Pradesh. For many years, he was living in Dhir Colony with his family. He hanged himself in his house late at night.

Deceased’s son Abhishek said that his younger sister had married Balwinder Singh three months ago on her own free will. This young man lived in their neighborhood. Balwinder Singh is not from his caste.

Abhishek told that his family was unhappy with this, and did not want to have any relationship with the sister. Balwinder Singh and his father Surinder Pal had their eyes on his property. He used to harass his father about this.
