Vigilance Bureau apprehends Sewa Kendar computer operator taking Rs 12,000 bribe

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has arrested Labhpreet Singh, computer operator, posted at Sewa Kendar, Balluana in Bathinda district, red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000.

Disclosing this here today, the spokesperson of the VB informed that the accused computer operator was arrested based on the statement and recording submitted by the complainant Jaspreet Singh, a resident of Balluana in Bathinda district.

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the said computer operator had demanded Rs 12,000 for helping him in lieu of issuing death certificate of his uncle. However, this demand was recorded by the complainant in his mobile which was handed over to the VB as an evidence.

The spokesperson stated that acting on this complaint, a team from VB, Bathinda range, laid a trap to caught above said accused Labhpreet Singh red-handed, while he was accepting Rs 12,000 bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses but the accused swiftly escaped from the place by taking ride on a motorcycle. During a chase by the VB team the accused was apprehended near Kili Nihal Singh Wala bus stop on Bathinda-Sri Muktsar Sahib road and recovered the bribe amount from his possession.

In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused computer operator at VB police station Bathinda range and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
