VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS PATWARI IN CORRUPTION CASE FOR TAKING RS. 5 LAKH BRIBE

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), on Wednesday, has arrested Kuldeep Singh, Patwari (now Kanungo), posted in revenue circle Dumewal, Tehsil Nangal, in Roopnagar district for entering illegal transfer/mutation of land of village Karuran, Tehsil Nurpurbedi, to the department of Forests Punjab.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said in this regard a case FIR No. 69, dated 28.06.2022 had already been registered under section 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of IPC and section 7, 7A, 8, 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act at police station Nurpurbedi, in Roopnagar.

He further added that in the year 2020, officials/officers of the state department of Revenue and department of Forests, in connivance with private persons, got registered 54 acres low-valued land of village Karuran, Tehsil Nurpurbedi, at inflated prices in the name of Forests department thereby inflicting a loss of Rs. 5.35 crores to the State government.

The spokesperson revealed that the above-mentioned accused Patwari Kuldeep Singh, in collusion with private persons, registered this illegal/fake transfer of land and then, in connivance with Raghvir Singh, the then Naib-Tehsildar, approved 73 fake mutations and transfers. He added that during the probe it was found that the said accused had took Rs. 5 lakh as bribe on 15.09.2020 in lieu of the said work and got deposited the same in an old bank account at Amritsar belonging to his wife Sanpreet Sekhon.

He further informed that the said accused Patwari would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress.
