Who is Narayan Singh Chaura? Who fired at Sukhbir Singh Badal

Chandigarh: Narayan Singh Chaura, the man who opened fire at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, has been identified as a controversial figure with a history of militancy.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning while Chaura was performing his duty as a sewadar outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

According to police sources, Chaura is a former chief of the Akal Federation and is known for his militant ties. He reportedly received training in Pakistan and has authored books on Sikh militancy. He has visited Pakistan three times before returning to India in 1995.

Chaura was previously a suspect in the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh. He was also allegedly involved in the 2004 Burail jail escape case, during which four undertrials, including Beant Singh’s assassin and Babbar Khalsa International chief Jagtar Singh Hawara, escaped by digging a tunnel from barrack number 7 of the jail. The escape occurred on the night of January 21, 2004.

Further investigation into the incident and Chaura’s motives is underway.
