Zira liquor factory protest: Large number of police deployed, atmosphere tense
Punjab E News: A sit-in has been going on for the past few months outside the Malbrose liquor factory in Ratol Rohi, a village adjacent to the assembly constituency of Zira.
A large number of police forces are deployed on the occasion. According to the information received, an 11-member committee of farmers is being formed.
A meeting of the protesters with the Punjab government is being held at 6 pm by the administrative officials.
Deputy Commissioner Amrit Singh said in a conference that the High Court had sought the names of the protesters and details of the property.
The High Court had said that the Punjab government had failed to end the sit-in. For this, the High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 15 crore on the government and ordered to deposit it within a week.
In the past, the government has been fined Rs 5 crore. Apart from this, the court had also issued show cause notices to DC Ferozepur and SSP. “Why not initiate proceedings against you for violating court orders,” the court said.
