11 more arrested in sub-inspector Charanjit Singh murder case, police continue crackdown
Chandigarh: The local police have arrested 11 more individuals in connection with the murder of Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh, who was killed while trying to resolve a dispute between two groups at Kot Mohammad Khan village on Wednesday night.
With this, the total number of arrests in the case has reached 18, including four women. All the accused were produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Rajdeep Singh Mann at Khadoor Sahib on Friday. The court sent them to four-day police remand.
The police said they have launched continuous raids to apprehend the remaining suspects. Ferozepur Range DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill said a case has been registered against around 70 people in connection with the incident.
The arrested accused have been identified as Amritpal Kaur, Rajwant Kaur, Veer Kaur, Manjit Kaur, Vasan Singh, Manjinder Singh, Amritpal Singh, Mahavir Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Hardev Singh, Baldev Singh, Sarpanch Kuldeep Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Harpal Singh — all residents of Kot Mohammad Khan — Jorawar Singh of Chander Colony in Tarn Taran, Palwinder Singh of Pidi village, Rajandeep Singh Billu of Chak Mehar village, and Gursewak Singh.
Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh was posted as Additional SHO at Goindwal Sahib police station.
His postmortem is scheduled for Saturday at the district hospital in Tarn Taran, to be conducted by a panel of three doctors. The last rites will take place in Bhikhiwind the same day.
Singh’s son, who returned from Canada, will attend the cremation. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav is also expected to be present. DIG Gill said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining accused involved in the case.
