111 farmers begin fast at Dhabai Gujjaran border
Chandigarh: A group of 111 farmers, under the banners of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and the Kisan-Mazdoor Morcha, commenced a fast unto death on Wednesday at the Dhabai Gujjaran (Khanauri) border.
The protest follows a peaceful sit-in near barricades set up by the Haryana Police.
Farmer leaders clarified that the fast is not merely a hunger strike but a pledge to die for their cause. Referring to past protests, they cited farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s previous fast unto death, undertaken when the government allegedly ignored their demands.
“Jagjit Singh Dallewal has inspired unwavering commitment among farmers, and today, thousands are prepared to lay down their lives,” said farmer leader Yadvinder Singh.
He added that the movement’s momentum has reached an all-time high.
Further developments in the protest are awaited.
