22-year-old youth deported from US after family spent Rs 41 lakh on migration

Chandigarh: Pradeep alias Deepu, 22, a resident of Jaraut village, was deported from the United States after a six-month journey through multiple countries.

He was caught by US authorities while attempting to enter the country and was sent back to India along with a group of other Indian migrants.

His family, including his grandmother Gurmeet Kaur, mother Narinder Kaur alias Rani, and father Kulbir Singh, said they had sold land and taken loans amounting to Rs 41 lakh to fund his journey. They also sent money every month in the hope that he would secure a future abroad and repay their debts.

Living in a small house, the family is now struggling financially. Kulbir Singh, who suffers from a mental illness, blamed agents for misleading youth with promises of a better life abroad.

He urged the government to take action against such agents, saying their son would not have endured months of hardship if not for these false assurances.
