8 contenders for president’s post; 15,000 students to choose new leadership
Two years after the Corona epidemic, students’ union elections are going to be held today in Panjab University and its affiliated colleges in Chandigarh. There will be a competition between 21 student candidates for 4 posts in the university today. These posts include the posts of President, Vice-President, General Secretary and Joint Secretary. Voting will begin at 9.30 am and end at 11 am.
The results of the posts are likely to come by 7 pm. A total of 169 polling booths have been set up in the university. Voting will be held in a total of 78 departments.
Out of the 8 candidates standing for the post of President, 2 are also girls students.
Around 15,000 students of the university will exercise their franchise to elect four office-bearers of the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC).
Chetan Chaudhary of the Students Organisation of India (SOI) was the last to win the students’ union elections held in the university in 2019 and became the campus president.
Earlier in the year 2018, Students for Society (SFS) won the post of President in Kanupriya University. She became the first woman president in the PU student union elections.
Usually, student union elections in the university are held in the month of September, but this time they are being held close to Diwali. In such a situation, some students have also gone on holidays in their homes. This is likely to reduce voting compared to previous years.
One of them will become the campus president of the university.
