AAP announces 784 candidates for municipal polls
Chandigarh: With only a day left for filing nominations, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced 784 candidates for the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections on Wednesday.
The announcement was made by AAP Punjab president Aman Arora and working president Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi.
The party is set to finalize candidates for 977 wards across five municipal corporations and 44 municipal councils. Aman Arora assured that the remaining candidates would be announced soon.
Meanwhile, the Congress released its first list of 63 candidates on Tuesday, introducing several fresh faces. However, tensions have arisen within the party, with senior leaders and former MLAs, the Bains brothers, reportedly disputing over ticket distribution as both push for their preferred candidates.
The elections will be held on December 21 across five key municipal corporations—Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Phagwara—and 44 municipal councils and nagar panchayats.
The nomination process began on December 9 and closes on December 12. Scrutiny of nominations will occur on December 13, with December 14 as the last date for withdrawal.
