AAP criticizes Centre over US deportation: Aman Arora questions Amritsar landing despite 33 from Gujarat

Chandigarh: A total of 104 Indian nationals were deported and arrived at Amritsar International Airport on Tuesday. Among them, 31 were from Punjab, 35 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, and two from Maharashtra. The deportation has triggered sharp political reactions, particularly in Punjab.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the central government of discrimination, questioning why the flight landed in Amritsar when those deported belonged to multiple states. Punjab AAP president Aman Arora alleged that the move was aimed at tarnishing the image of Punjabis.

Arora further claimed that had the flight landed in Delhi or another major international airport, it would have embarrassed the central government, which often highlights its strong ties with the US.

He suggested that choosing Amritsar for the landing created a perception that Punjabis were primarily involved in illegal immigration, harming the state’s reputation.
