AAP delegation meets Punjab State Election Commissioner, demands strict action in panchayat polls
Chandigarh: A delegation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) met with the Punjab State Election Commissioner, urging strict enforcement of the model code of conduct for the upcoming panchayat elections.
The delegation also called for swift action in areas where reports of panchayats being selected through bidding have surfaced.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, who led the delegation, emphasized the need for timely issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to candidates and stricter security measures in larger villages, particularly during vote counting.
Cheema also raised concerns about the safety of election staff, especially in sensitive panchayats.
The Election Commissioner has assured AAP that a meeting with the Director General of Police (DGP) will be convened to discuss security arrangements and that decisive action will be taken on these issues.
