AAP Punjab chief slams BJP over BBMB water decision, questions Sunil Jakhar’s silence

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president Aman Arora has criticised the BJP-led central and Haryana governments over what he termed as the continued exploitation of Punjab’s water rights.

In a strongly-worded letter to BJP Punjab president Sunil Jakhar, Arora questioned Jakhar’s silence on the recent decisions taken by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).

Arora expressed serious concern over the alleged approval of releasing 8,500 cusecs of additional water to Haryana during a recent BBMB meeting.

Calling the move illegal, he said the decision amounted to “day-to-day loot and a direct attack on the rights of Punjab.”

He accused the Narendra Modi-led central government of siding with Haryana and ignoring Punjab’s interests, and asked whether Jakhar was answerable to the people of the state on the issue.
