Ahead of Modi’s rally in Punjab, police surround farmers, Patiala-Rajpura highway closed
Chandigarh: There was a commotion before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Patiala. Farmers and laborers coming to Patiala to protest against the rally were surrounded by the police.
The farmers wanted to enter Patiala from the Rajpura side. The farmers are adamant about opposing the rally, while the police are preventing them from going further.
Paramilitary forces are also deployed here along with the police. Additionally, the police have set up barricades and parked sand-filled trucks. In view of the farmers’ protest, the administration has closed the Patiala-Rajpura highway. Farmers agitating at the Shambhu border also left for Patiala to protest against the PM’s rally.
On the other hand, Raninder Singh, son of former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, said that the protest does not matter. His family has relations with the people of Patiala.
PM Modi is coming to rally in support of BJP candidate Preneet Kaur from the Patiala Lok Sabha seat. Preneet Kaur’s husband and former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will not attend the rally due to ill health.
The PM will arrive at Yadavindra Stadium in Patiala by helicopter. After this, he will proceed to the polo ground under the guard of 450 security personnel via the bypass road.
