Air quality from Punjab to Delhi worsens; Ludhiana-Rupnagar most polluted city in Punjab
Punjab News: Punjab has been witnessing a sharp decline in cases of stubble burning after harvesting paddy this year. According to the data shared by the Punjab government, there has been a 50% decrease in stubble burning cases this year. But despite this, the air of Punjab has started deteriorating.
Both Ludhiana and Rupnagar are among the most polluted cities in the state and have come under the orange category. While breathing in such air will increase respiratory diseases, the skin and eyes can also be affected. At the same time, not only Punjab, the air up to Delhi is affected. The air quality index (AQI) in Delhi is running at an average of 357 and the maximum is running at 500. Such toxic air can swallow anyone’s breath.
As many as 766 cases of stubble burning have been reported in the state till Friday evening, the highest this season.
According to data from the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre in Ludhiana, a total of 4,088 cases of stubble burning were reported in the state from September 15 to October 27. Last year, 8,147 cases were registered in these months and 6,742 in 2021.
