Akal Takht jathedar inspects Gurdaspur gurdwara fire, calls it negligence

Chandigarh: Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, inspected the site where holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Gurbani books were burned due to a short circuit at a gurdwara in Bham village, Gurdaspur. He termed the incident as negligence by the organizers.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, expressed grief over the incident.

The jathedar noted that the gurdwara lacked security guards, as do many others in the village. He stressed the need for proper arrangements to protect the sanctity of Guru Granth Sahib and announced that saroops from gurdwaras without security would be moved to nearby historical gurdwaras.

The administration has launched an investigation into the incident. The jathedar stated that despite the significant damage, CCTV footage from the gurdwara would be reviewed to determine how the fire occurred.
