Akal Takht Jathedar questions timing of giving another parole to Ram Rahim ahead of Haryana elections
Amritsar: Giani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest temporal authority of the Sikhs, has raised concerns over the furlough granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, the Jathedar questioned the justice system that allows convicted rapists parole, allegedly to influence the Haryana elections, while Sikh prisoners languish in jails without similar consideration.
The Jathedar said the plight of Sikh prisoners who have been imprisoned for over 32 years, even after completing their sentences.
He criticized the government’s inaction, pointing out that despite repeated appeals, these prisoners are not being released.
Jathedar Raghbir Singh also urged Home Minister Amit Shah to reconsider the pending cases, specifically mentioning the prolonged delay in the decision regarding Balwant Singh Rajoana, whose death sentence has been pending commutation to life imprisonment for 12 years.
The Supreme Court has noted that the final decision lies with the government, yet no resolution has been reached.
