Akal Takht jathedar urges SGPC President to withdraw resignation

Amritsar: Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has urged Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami to withdraw his resignation and resume his responsibilities.

Speaking to the media this morning, the Jathedar clarified that he only recently learned that the Akal Takht’s orders were restricted to its boundary walls.

Breaking his silence on recent developments, Giani Raghbir Singh emphasized that Dhami should reassume his role and lead the seven-member committee appointed by the Akal Takht.

He noted that Dhami had resigned citing moral responsibility over a social media post made by the Jathedar. However, he reiterated that the post was personal and not an official directive.

“Just as Dhami resigned on moral grounds, I also appeal to him on moral grounds to withdraw his resignation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi minister and Sikh leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa paid obeisance at the Golden Temple today.

Responding to a question, the Jathedar acknowledged that Dhami might have been under pressure. He described Dhami as an honest and sincere leader with a deep sense of responsibility toward his duties.
