Akal Takht to form 11-Member advisory board to address Sikh concerns

Amritsar: In a key decision, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) approved the formation of an 11-member advisory board at its general meeting today, aimed at streamlining matters reaching Akal Takht Sahib.

The resolution was passed with strong support from the House.

The SGPC also urged the Indian and Canadian governments to work collaboratively to safeguard the Sikh community amid recent tensions in Canada, including the ban on Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency and instances of Sikh personalities being targeted.

Further resolutions addressed the rise in anti-Sikh sentiment on social media, calling for action to curb hate propaganda and ensure security for Sikhs worldwide.

Other key demands included simplifying the pilgrimage process to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, addressing delays in cases related to blasphemy, and the appointment of a permanent SGPC representative on the Film Censor Board.

The SGPC also called for an immediate halt to negative portrayals of Sikhs in media, urging respect for Sikh historical sites and cultural symbols.
