Akali Dal announces final candidate for LS polls, Virsa Singh Valtoha to contest from Khadoor Sahib
Chandigarh: In Punjab, the Akali Dal has announced its candidate for the Khadoor Sahib seat. Party spokesperson Virsa Singh Valtoha has been nominated. He was previously an MLA from Khadoor Sahib.
There was earlier speculation about Bikram Singh Majithia being a candidate for this seat. Khadoor Sahib is a significant constituency, known for its sectarian representation. Virsa Singh Valtoha is among the prominent sect leaders.
Additionally, Valtoha has served as a CPS in the Punjab government. Amritpal Singh, a Khalistan supporter currently incarcerated in Assam jail, has declared his intention to contest the elections from Khadoor Sahib.
Initially, there were discussions suggesting Akali Dal might back Amritpal candidature, but the party has decided to contest the elections independently.
