Akali Dal recruitment drive: Akal Takht Committee submits report amid resignations

Chandigarh: The remaining five members of the seven-member committee constituted by the Akal Takht for the recruitment of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) submitted their report to the Akal Takht Secretariat in Amritsar.

Committee member Bibi Satwant Kaur handed over the report in the name of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh to an official at the secretariat.

Bibi Satwant Kaur said that the report includes details on the committee’s performance and the current situation. She added that while Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh was not present, the report was formally submitted to his office. However, she declined to disclose its contents.

The committee, initially led by Akal Takht-appointed advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, has seen recent resignations. Dhami stepped down as head of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and also resigned from the seven-member committee. Former SGPC president Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar also quit the panel.

Following these resignations, the committee now consists of Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Manpreet Singh Ayali, Iqbal Singh Jhundan, Santa Singh Umaidpuri, and Bibi Satwant Kaur. The five members attended a scheduled meeting in Patiala, where they decided to submit a report on their progress to the Akal Takht.

Advocate Dhami, who previously led the committee, confirmed he did not attend the meeting and reiterated his decision to step down.
