Attempt to shoot Sukhbir Badal outside Darbar Sahib
Amritsar: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal narrowly escaped an assassination attempt outside Sri Harmandir Sahib on Monday. A man armed with a pistol reportedly fired at Badal from close range but missed. Witnesses near the scene acted swiftly, overpowering the attacker before he could fire again.
The accused, identified as Narayan Singh Chauda, a leader of the Akal Federation, was immediately detained. Reports indicate that Chauda has a criminal history and has previously served time in jail.
Following the incident, a heavy security cordon was placed around Badal as several Akali leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia, arrived at the site.
Majithia strongly condemned the attack, stating, “No true Sikh would ever commit such a cowardly act against someone peacefully serving in Guru Charan.” He assured that services at the shrine would continue undeterred.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
