Bajwa Backs Dallewal: Assures Unwavering Support for Farmers’ Cause

Punjab E News: Leader of the Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Sunday visited the farmers’ protest site at the Khanauri border, expressing solidarity with farm union leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, whose fast unto death has entered its 20th day. Bajwa inquired about Dallewal’s well-being and reaffirmed the Congress party’s commitment to the farmers’ struggle.

Speaking with Dallewal, Bajwa emphasized that both the Indian National Congress and Punjab Congress stand firmly with the farming community in their fight for justice, including their demand for a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP).

“The Congress party fully supports the farmers in their rightful demands,” Bajwa said. “I urge every Punjab Congress worker to stand in solidarity with our farmers and contribute to this historic movement. Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s sacrifice reflects the indomitable spirit of our farming community. We are committed to ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are protected.”

Reflecting on the farmers’ year-long agitation against the three controversial farm laws, Bajwa reminded that their perseverance forced the BJP-led Union government to repeal the laws in November 2021. He also criticized the government’s continued disregard for farmers’ demands, calling it another chapter in their anti-farmer policies.

“It’s been nearly a year since farmers began their protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, enduring immense hardships, including police violence. More than 100 farmers were injured, and young farmer Shubhkaran Singh lost his life. Yet, their determination remains unshaken. The BJP government will have no choice but to concede to their demands, including legalizing MSP,” Bajwa said.

Bajwa’s visit underscored his solidarity with the farmers and reaffirmed his call for justice for Punjab’s agricultural community.
