Baljit Channi elected mayor of Moga Municipal Corporation, AAP’s first mayor in Punjab
Moga News: The Aam Aadmi Party has also captured the Moga Municipal Corporation of Punjab. Baljit Singh Channi has been appointed as the new Mayor of Moga. In the Moga Municipal Corporation with a total of 50 councillors, 42 supported Baljit Singh Channi.
During the voting, 8 councillors were absent. After which Chani was unanimously elected as mayor.
The new mayor is a municipal councillor from ward number 8. He contested the 2021 municipal elections on the Aam Aadmi Party’s election symbol. During the voting, there was tight security in the mini secretariat. For this, the Divisional Commissioner had reached there.
Earlier on July 4, Municipal Corporation Mayor Nitika Bhalla was ousted by the councillors of the legislative group by filing a no-confidence motion.
Nitika Bhalla held the post of Mayor for almost 2 years. After this, the MLA gave additional charge to Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Sharma and became the acting Mayor.
