BSc Agriculture course discontinued at Brijindra College, Faridkot

Chandigarh: The farmers of Punjab are already struggling with the crisis and now the farmers will also have to deal with the shortage of agricultural scientists. Because the teaching of BSc Agriculture from the historic Brijindra College in Faridkot has been permanently stopped.
As per the instructions of the Agriculture Council, the shortcomings in the Department of Agriculture have not been removed, due to which this department of Brijindra College did not get approval to admit for BSc Agriculture.
So now this historic college will not produce agricultural scientists. Experts are very much needed to solve the agrarian crisis in Punjab, but in an agrarian state like Punjab, the closure of BSc agriculture studies does not augur well for the annadata. BSc Agriculture was started in 1942 in Brijindra College and 100 seats in this college were reserved for this course. It is the only government college in Malwa where Bsc agriculture was taught at a reasonable fee.
In the year 2019, the Agriculture Council in its revised conditions had written to Brijindra College that for BSc Agriculture, the college must have 25 acres of land, modern laboratory and adequate staff, but the college could not fulfill these conditions due to which there was no admission for BSc Agriculture course after 2020.  That batch left the college today on May 10, 2023 after the examinations.
Brijindra College principal Hartej Kaur Tiwana said the college could not meet the conditions of the agriculture council. Due to this, BSc Agriculture has stopped from the college.
