Cabinet Minister Bhullar Inaugurates Guru Nanak Dev Ji sports stadium at Central Jail Kapurthala

Kapurthala News: In a major reformative initiative aimed at reintegrating inmates into mainstream society, Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Friday inaugurated Guru Nanak Dev Ji Sports Stadium, constructed over 4 acres at Central Jail, Kapurthala.

In his address, Bhullar stated that a former garbage dump within the jail premises has been transformed into a stadium, now suitable for sports like athletics and football.” He emphasized that such facilities will positively impact inmates’ behavior.
The Minister also announced that the installation of jammers in 13 jails across Punjab is progressing rapidly to prevent mobile phone usage. Additionally, a ₹100-crore high-security jail is under construction in Gorsian Bakhsh village, Ludhiana, to segregate high-risk inmates.
Aligning with the government’s policy, inmates are being assigned work based on their skills, including producing bakery items, to promote self-reliance. During the visit, S. Bhullar tasted food prepared in the jail canteen, listened to inmates’ grievances, and instructed jail authorities to address their concerns promptly.
The Minister held discussions with Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, SSP Gaurav Tura, and Jail Superintendent Shyamal Jyoti to explore further improvements in jail facilities.
