Chandigarh constable assaults family in Nayagaon, threatens victims

Chandigarh: A Chandigarh Police constable allegedly entered a house in Nayagaon and assaulted a family, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred after an altercation broke out when a woman from the house tried to stop him.

According to the family, the constable, who was wearing a police uniform, threatened them, claiming that even if identified as a member of the Chandigarh Police, no one could take action against him. He allegedly warned the family to visit Chandigarh if they wanted to witness his power.

The victim’s family filed a complaint with the Mohali police, demanding strict action and registration of an FIR against the accused. They expressed concern for their safety and said a strong response was necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Monika Sharma, a member of the victim’s family, said she was on duty at the New OPD of PGI Chandigarh when she received a distress call from her son. “My frightened child told me that a man in police uniform had entered our house, assaulted their father, and threatened the family,” Sharma said.

She added that the confrontation reportedly started after the children spoke about playing in the street.
