Chandigarh-Punjab taxi operators boycott Himachal over recent imposition of road tax by HP government
Mohali News: The Himachal government has imposed heavy taxes on taxis and tourist buses from outside states. Disgruntled over this, travel agents from Gujarat and Calcutta have already boycotted Himachal Pradesh. Now taxi operators of Chandigarh-Punjab have also threatened to seal the border with boycott.
Sharanjeet Kalsi, president of Azad Taxi Union Chandigarh-Punjab, said the union has stopped taking bookings for Himachal and is cancelling advance bookings.
He said that talks are being held with all taxi, tempo and bus operators of Punjab and Chandigarh.
Even after this, if the Himachal government does not abolish the tax on All India Tourist Permit vehicles, then the borders will be forced to be sealed by October 15.
The transporters argued that imposing a daily charge of Rs 3,000, along with a cess of Rs 200 per day, on their 13, 17, and 23-seater tempo travelers was unacceptable. This tax became effective on September 1 for all vehicles entering Himachal Pradesh from other states.
Earlier, taxi operators of Chandigarh-Punjab held massive protest last month but after the assurance of DC Solan, they postponed their strike.
