Congress urges ECI to postpone SAD internal elections over alleged violations

Chandigarh: Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI), urging it to postpone the internal elections of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which are scheduled for April 12.

In his letter, Randhawa flagged alleged technical and financial irregularities in the party’s recruitment drive and internal selection process. He also referred to an earlier letter sent to the Commission highlighting similar concerns.

The SAD is set to hold a delegate session on April 12 at Teja Singh Samundri Hall in Amritsar, during which a new party president and other office-bearers are to be elected.

Randhawa raised objections to the choice of venue, noting that the hall is located within the premises of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), while the SAD functions under its own constitution. He argued that holding the delegate session at a religious site in the presence of the SGPC is a direct violation of established norms.

The MP also questioned the transparency of SAD’s internal recruitment process, calling for greater scrutiny before the elections proceed.
